Food for the Hungry

Each day, Student Open Circles volunteers help to combat food insecurity by preparing breakfast for children and meals at shelters. We train student leaders like Maria, pictured at right with her Saturday morning soup kitchen volunteers, to help with recruiting and coordinating volunteers for their group and to lead a reflection activity each week so that group members are able to understand the larger issues that they are addressing through their weekly service.

"The highlight of my volunteer work was realizing how much help is needed around every community. This experience made me realize that everyone, regardless of where they live or who they are, will need help at some point in their lives. It is important to put others first, and always be kind because you never know what they are carrying around." (volunteer with the children's breakfast program at Dr. Davey School)
